Precious Little Things

Jewelry making has had a significant influence on my artistic development and is the inspiration for this series of books that explore the beauty and power of gemstones. I wanted to create books imbued with a mystical grandeur, like those jewel-encrusted incunabula of the Medieval world. The first in the series, Rose Quartz, describes the ‘stone of love’ which is known for its calming energy and healing properties. The rich cultural significance of this gem dates back centuries: In ancient Egypt rose quartz was believed to slow the aging process, while the Greeks associated it with Aphrodite, the goddess of love. By referencing the poetry of Emily Dickinson, Charles Baudelaire, and others, I wanted the book’s content to blend literature, art, design, and spirituality — to take the reader on a journey of self-reflection. As with other stones in this series, Rose Quartz is meant to revitalize the readers’ energy and guide them toward a more fulfilling life.
